Move to full-time independent arbitrator and adjudicator

After more than 30 years as counsel in civil and commercial disputes, I’ve now transitioned to full-time practice as an independent arbitrator and construction adjudicator.

This evolution builds on rewarding relationships within the profession and with organisations such as the Building Disputes Tribunal, NZDRC | New Zealand Dispute Resolution Centre, the NZIAC | New Zealand International Arbitration Centre, and AMINZ I Arbitrators' and Mediators' Institute of New Zealand, whose trust and referrals continue to underpin my work.

In recent years, I have:
• Served as arbitrator or adjudicator in over 75 arbitrations and construction adjudications.
• Been regularly appointed as expert to determine disputes under agreements for the sale and purchase of real estate and businesses.
• Issued awards and determinations across disputes ranging in value from $50k to over $10m, including matters involving property, construction, infrastructure, forestry and rural land, commercial leases and rent reviews, business sales, shareholder disputes, trusts, and commercial contracts.

My arbitration and adjudication practice has flourished to the point where I am now focusing solely on serving the market as an independent arbitrator and adjudicator. This means maintaining impartiality and integrity in decision-making, while continuing to collaborate wherever appropriate with respected organisations like the BDT, NZDRC, NZIAC and AMINZ.

For legal professionals, this means:
• My focus is now exclusively on arbitration, adjudication, and expert determination.
• I am available for appointments nationwide.
• I am committed to tailoring processes to suit the dispute, including remote conferences and hearings where appropriate.
• My goal is to help parties resolve disputes efficiently and with commercial realism, while preserving confidentiality and valued relationships wherever possible.

If you’d like to discuss a potential appointment, or whether arbitration or adjudication might suit your dispute, please feel free to get in touch.
